Narasimha Rao
Narasimha D. Rao came to IPER after spending four years in Bangalore, India
as a Visiting Faculty at the Center for Public Policy in the Indian
Institute of Management, where he conducted policy analysis and advocacy in
power sector reforms, working with NGOs, academics and students. At IPER,
Narasimha intends to explore the implementation of carbon abatement policies
in India's energy sectors, considering its political economy and regulatory
environment.
Narasimha spent seven years in energy consulting in the US, with Arthur D.
Little, then Tabors Caramanis and Associates, working with equipment
manufacturers and utilities in the energy sector, on renewable energy
technology commercialization, electricity market design and demand side
management. Recently while in India, he represented the Government of India
in a team of experts in the international arbitration involving the Dabhol
energy project. He also conducted research at IIMB on the political economy
of independent electricity regulators in India for Asian Development Bank
and Government of the UK.
Narasimha graduated with two Masters from the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology in Technology Policy and Electrical Engineering. As a recipient
of the Alfred Keil Fellowship for Wiser uses of Science and Technology, he
did a Masters thesis on the potential for grid-connected solar photovoltaics
in electricity capacity planning in rural areas.
